MAKE ME CRY x FUGA x DAZE BLVD is the latest release from Manchester duo, FLIIIS. Following on from On the Sonnet and Conversations, FLIIIS are continuing to produce their fresh DIY sound through their new music. Which consequently has created a buzz around the band and its music, especially on social media.
The first track off this release is MAKE ME CRY, a track which is reminiscent of 80’s New Wave influenced by bands such as The Human League and Depeche Mode. The track holds a dark, self-reflective story-line at the core, telling the tale of the inner workings of a tormented mind and the resentment held towards itself. Next up, FUGA is a field recording of New York but with a low, hidden spoken word poem layered on top. FUGA is a clever bridge between MAKE ME CRY and DAZE BLVD. DAZE BLVD tells a different tale about a tormented mind when it misses the thing that torments it. Emitting a haunting chill but still stays true to the cool, slick sound which FLIIIS create. DAZE BLVD.’s backing is a speech from Nicholas Winding Refn’s movie Drive, creating a fresh yet clever piece of music and to me, the best track off the release.
Rating: ★★★
