Single Review: Afterwards, SKIES

Folkestone duo, SKIES composed of Alie and Jericho released their latest single, Afterwards on 24th March. 2016 was quite the year for the duo; going from strength to strength, they managed to pick up support from Radio 1 DJs (Huw Stephens and Phil Taggart) and online support, from the likes of Clash, Q and tmrw. They have also received huge support from Abbie McCarthy of BBC Introducing in Kent. They also toured with Clean Cut Kid, Coasts and Get Inuit, not to forget their headline shows, including a packed Camden Assembly.

The track is the latest release since their debut EP, If You Feel Like It. Since the release of Drone, SKIES have turned heads from all corners of the UK and already have a significant following. Afterwards is the lead track from their upcoming EP and serves as a taste of whats to come.

New single, Afterwards, is the duo’s best track yet, really showing how the Kentish outfit have matured. The track showcases their captivating synth fuelled by their hard-hitting drums and energetic guitars. Afterwards shows that SKIES have a lot to give still, they are only just picking up speed. To me, the track’s style has clear similarities to Paramore and Coasts but adding their own fresh touch and in turn, creating something great.

Speaking of the track, Alie (Vocals/Guitar) explains the meaning behind the lyrics, ‘It’s a song all about regret, something that we can all carry at some point in our lives.’
